Jon SooHoo always takes great pictures, but these have to be some of my favorites that he’s ever posted. Here, you have three guys from three very different backgrounds and three very different places. They don’t even speak the same languages as one another. Yet look at them. They’re clearly having a great time and enjoying each others’ company. Winning could very well have something to do with their good moods, but that’s hardly what’s most important about what’s going on here.
If I can get a little sentimental here for a moment, this is really a beautiful microcosm of the way baseball’s increasingly global influence can bring people together who otherwise wouldn’t have a whole lot in common. Baseball may or may not be America’s pastime anymore, and that might just be okay, because you know what? It’s become so much more than that to a whole variety of people who aren’t necessarily from the United States. Baseball is something that, at its very essence, is universal enough to draw in anyone, and to unite all kinds of different people for the sake of the team. And that’s one of the very best things about it.
Oh, and yeah, go on—tell me this team doesn’t have chemistry. newgrassonthefield:
